We stay at B&Bs when we travel, but staying at Las Terrazas was a different and better experience. First the hosts, Murray and Greg, went out of their way not only to make us feel at home but to solve our travel problems.
The first few nights we planned to be in San Miguel de Allende a casa at Las Terrazas was not available, so they arranged to have us stay in a condo nearby. Next our checks did not arrive on time, but they honored our reservation and allowed us to pay upon arrival. (Don't count on this.) When our flight was delayed they phoned us every hour until our arrival time was confirmed so they could arrange transportation from the airport, and when we did finally arrive at 2 am Murray was there to greet us. On top of all this they stocked the condo for breakfast so we would not awake hungry in a strange city. Murray is even acting as a consultant on shipping a large piece of art home.
Second, the B&B experience at Las Terrazas is based on privacy and not community. There is no common dining room and instead breakfast is delivered as ordered to each casa the night before. Breakfast in bed your fancy? It is certainly possible.
The booklet San Miguel Walking and Shopping Guide is a valuable reference, but it is second to Greg and Murray's extensive orientation with a map annotated with places to go, things to do, recommended restaurants, etc. The map became our bible.
A recommended activity is the house and garden tour leaving from the Biblioteca at noon every Sunday. This was our first glimpse of the posh life that is possible in SMA. Tropical Spanish houses show little from the street with all the beauty in and around a central courtyard or several smaller courtyards. The three houses we saw were outstanding but none out shown Las Terrazas.
Every week or so Greg and Murray hold a sunset cocktail party which gives you a chance to socialize with the hosts and the other guests and to see the owner's casa. Las Terrazas is built on a hillside with Casa Grillo (cricket) at street level and the owners Casa Aguila (eagle) at the top. The view is spectacular, and our view from Casita Colibri just below was almost as good. Of course Murray and Greg were consummate hosts to a great party.
Another must see is Fabrica la Aurora, a former textile factory converted to artists studios and shops. Thursday afternoons are the best time because all the artists are supposed to be there then. Murray's paintings can be seen in the shop named Factoria near the back.
San Miguel? We plan to come back and stay longer.
Las Terrazas? We loved it and our hosts and plan to return, probably renting a larger casa and bringing friends. I cannot imagine a better place.

We decided to escape the cold and rain of November in Canada, and hide out in San Miguel for the month. After thoroughly searching the internet, we settled on Casa Mariposa at Las Terrazas San Miguel. The pictures and description of the site looked to be exactly what we needed.
We were quite surprised upon our arrival, as Casa Mariposa is, believe it or not, nicer than what was pictured on the internet site. It is a completely equipped oasis minutes from the center of San Miguel's attractions. Its serene atmosphere, fabulous terrace and in fact the entire complex, made us feel at ease.
We felt totally secure and at home immediately, and Greg and Murray treated us like old friends. Las Terrazas proved to be the ideal base for exploring and appreciating the culture, the texture and the many activities of San Miguel and its friendly, welcoming residents.
The owners and staff could not have been kinder or more helpful.

This turned out to be quite a “find”. We have rented apartments in many parts of the world but this was unusual in that Greg was available to act as a concierge as well. Our Casa Grillo was nicely decorated with all the amenities provided. One could see regular maintenance being done constantly by the staff. Greg’s efforts made us feel at home and contributed to a very comfortable and charming stay. We recommend this very highly and commend Greg for his hospitality and ethics!

We want to thank you for a wonderful experience at Las Terrazas in San Miguel that started long before we arrived. Your advice and help on arrangements for getting there made it all so easy and pleasant. We were overwhelmed with the setting--comfortable and carefully selected furnishings, abundant flowers, creative touches everywhere. It was so pleasant that we were reluctant every day to leave and explore San Miguel, even though we were just a short walk from the center of town. We will always remember the hospitality that continued throughout our visit. We felt like we were in a lovely home. We plan to return as soon as possible.

I'm
already missing the church bells, warm breezes and friendly smiles
of San Miguel.
Thanks
again for all your generous hospitality. Las Terrazas provided the
perfect place for me to feel at home while exploring both my inner
world, and my outer world of your wonderful town of San Miguel de
Allende.
Peter, New York, 2004
Just
a note to express our appreciation for your helping to make our two
weeks in San Miguel as memorable as they were. Of course, Casa Mariposa
was everything we could have hoped for. And More. Thanks also for
your most cordial hospitality on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve,
as well as for your help in recommending and making arrangements for
side trips to Pozos and Michoacan (the Mariposa Sanctuary).
As
you know, this was our second trip to San Miguel. Our third will
most certainly be as your guests.
Lenore and Michael, Pennsylvania, 2004
Thank
you once again for being a gracious host and making our stay in
San Miguel even more special. Joe and I loved the town and the people,
but I know our experience was greatly enhanced by your hospitality
and being a part of our own little compound. We even got to have
dogs for a week!
Amy and Joe, Seattle, Wa. 2003
We
had a grand time in San Miguel. Greg- the perfect host. Our Casa
felt like home. Thanks for all.

Karen’s Favorites: Every recommendation you gave us was
wonderful, from the tours, to the restaurants, to the shopping,

felt like our home away from home!

“Beach Room”!!
Melaina’s Favorites: One of my favorites was being around
your great dogs! I had been feeling homesick for my cat, so being
around them helped a lot!!

and feel like we’re leaving “as family.” You saved
me from having to buy a second home here! Many thanks for the warm

We want to thank you for such a wonderful experience here at Las Terrazas. It has been better than we could ever have imagined. Not only is everything gorgeous, but you go "beyond the call of duty." I only wish you weren't so popular!! Anyway, thanks again and we will see you back here at Las Terrazas, soon.
Lisa & Freddy, Brooklyn, New York 2006
The Casita Colibri is a "sweet" place. Thanks so much for sharing with me along with the rest of Las Terrazas. You have such an outstanding property in a fascinating city. It is fun (and good exercise) walking up and down the streets of San Miguel. You never really know what is around the next corner. I greatly appreciate the city's efforts to historically preserve its beautiful architecture. My trip to Mineral de Pozos intrigues me and I found the landscape breathtaking. The best part of my visit to San Miguel has been the wonderful people I've met along the way, and of course staying here at Las Terrazas.

We thoroughly enjoyed Casa Colibri and our entire stay at Las Terrazas. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the staff friendly and their service was appreciated. The casa is perfect, the new fountain and fireplace are wonderful! We loved our flowers, wine, pastries and coffees that were waiting for us. Things we also appreciated were the purified filtration system for the water, excellent plumbing and abundance of towels (better quality than many nice hotels). The bed and linens were very comfortable. He kitchen is wonderful, you have provided everything needed. The attention to every detail did not go unnoticed! The location of Las Terrazas is perfect, the views from Casa Colibri are beautiful and much quieter than being in the Jardin. Again, thank you for a wonderful stay in Las Terrazas.
Cheryl and Steve, Santa Ana, Ca.
We loved our accommodations here, wonderful place with all the beautiful flowers. Of course the dogs are wonderful, especially Fred “the thinker!” We really enjoyed our trip to Santa Rosa, Dolores Hildago and Guanajuato. Thank you for making all of the arrangements. San Miguel is a wonderful place, the people are extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks again Greg and Murray for all your help and a wonderful time.
Cliff and Pam Del Rio, Tx 2005
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You helped make our first visit to San Miguel so wonderful. From fresh cut flowers, to the bottle of wine to making our transportation arrangements, to sharing your wonderful family of dogs you were so gracious. You have a lovely home and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

What can we say? An amazing and beautiful “home” run by equally amazing hosts. A safe, convenient and quiet “oasis” to call our own (for a week, anyway). We are already planning our return and will think of no other place to stay. San Miguel has stolen our hearts, thanks in large part to Las Terrazas.
Faron and Adrian, Houston, Tx. 2005
We had a wonderful visit, thoroughly enjoying this lovely space, especially mid-late afternoon in a cool casa when it was hot outside. With your orientation we found some terrific restaurants and also ate well here in our casa! We made lots of excursions and definitely recommend both Guanajuato and the Botanical Garden. Many thanks! Las Terrazas was better than expected. You have created a wonderful space and you clearly take pride being attentive hosts. We will certainly recommend Las Terrazas to others and hope to return in the future.
Sue and Tom Manotick, Ontario, Canada 2005
Las Terrazas and Casa Mariposa are food for the soul…artistic, adrift with beauty, elegance and comfort. Thank you for making our stay one to always cherish. Your “labor of love” shows in all you have done to create this oasis. It is not just your homes you’ve created. It is immersed with both of you..your generosity of spirit, kindness and humor were the essence of our stay.
Sandra and Bill, Tualatin, Oregon 2005
Las Terrazas is a fantastically beautiful and comfortable home away
from home in San Miguel. The casitas are lovely, spacious and private.
Our place provided an island of peace after a great day of exploring
this wonderful city. While security really is not an issue in San
Miguel, you feel even more comfortable in this walled compound.
The owners, Greg and Murray, took great care of us. Don't miss this
place. You will want to come back.
Mark, Minneapolis, 2004
You
walk into the entrance courtyard and are immediately surrounded by
a lovingly tended garden with a softly babbling fountain on one of
the terraces. But wait, it gets even better! The casa we rented (Casa
Grillo) carried forward the same loving attention to detail. The décor
of the house, the flowers on the table, the wine that greets the thirsty
traveler, coffee and muffins for in the morning, the local Gringo
newspaper. Ah, perfect, you are home…
The location is great as the casas are just a short downhill walk
to Centro and with the map and guidebook that was thoughtfully provided
by our hosts, it is easy to find your way to the many places of
interest. Need a recommendation on a place to eat? Need to find
a tour guide? Greg is very happy to accommodate!
Thank
you! I cannot think of a better place to stay while visiting San
Miguel. I know that I will definitely be back!

Our
first superlative has to be unforgettable! Las Terrazas is a place
where memories are made…pictures that never leave your mind.
From the evening breezes on the terrace to the beautiful vistas
at first sunlight, we will treasure every moment of our stay.
We
would love to add how much we enjoyed getting to know our hosts,
Greg and Murray. They open their home and make you feel as if you
have known then your whole life – good friends who share their
knowledge and passion for life. We will keep in touch, we want to
bring our families back.
Mark and Wendy, Dallas, Texas 2004
Ron
and I both enjoyed our stay tremendously. I will be happy to recommend
your casas to my friends. I'll make sure they're worthy customers!
Tom, Naples, FL, July 2002
Thank
you again for creating such a heavenly place--all our friends have
been waxing poetic over the pictures of the beautiful flowers and
the Architectural Digest shots I got of Anne in her elegant casa.
I'm sure you'll be seeing us again.
